The influence of overcast rain on jujube and its remedial measures

The recent continuous rainfall has caused significant damage to the date industry, particularly affecting the winter jujube harvest. With the harvesting season in full swing, most of the winter jujubes have not been picked on time due to the persistent rain. As a result, many fruits have cracked, rotted, and lost their commercial value. Meanwhile, the gold jujubes that were harvested are also suffering from delayed drying caused by the rainy weather, leading to spoilage and a decline in product quality. To minimize losses and support farmers' income, several proactive measures should be taken: First, it is crucial to organize the community to collect and sort the jujubes after the rain. All fruits should be carefully inspected, graded, and separated, especially those that are cracked or rotten. High-quality jujubes should also be sorted to prevent bacterial contamination. After sorting, all fruits should be treated with oxyacetic acid to disinfect them, which helps extend their storage life and shelf life. For the gold jujubes, any moldy or rotten berries must be removed and buried deeply to prevent further infection. The remaining jujubes should be dried regularly, turning them 2-3 times a day to ensure even drying. Second, timely application of basal fertilizer is essential. Since the orchards have already been harvested, no fertilizer was applied during the previous period. Now is the right time to take advantage of the favorable conditions and apply the necessary nutrients to the soil, laying a strong foundation for the growth of jujube trees next year. Third, it's important to clean up the orchard thoroughly. After the leaves have fallen at the end of October, all remaining fruit, damaged berries, and weeds should be cleared and removed. These materials should be burned or buried deeply to reduce the number of pathogenic bacteria that overwinter in the field. This practice will help improve the health of the orchard and contribute to a better harvest in the following year. By implementing these strategies, farmers can protect their crops, maintain product quality, and secure better returns despite the challenging weather conditions.
