Guangzhou cultivates two new varieties of cherry blossoms

China Garden Network March 29 news: Sakura is native to China, but it is famous in Japan. Every spring, many Guangzhou tourists come to Japan or Wuhan for cherry blossom viewing. In the future, Guangzhou people do not have to "near seek for a long distance." A local company in Guangzhou has cultivated cherry trees suitable for planting in southern China and named it "Chinese Red." On March 24, the company joined hands with South China Agricultural University to plant a cherry blossom forest on the Huanong campus.

"Guangzhou Sakura" will be gradually promoted after mass production. On Saturday, hundreds of teachers and students were swept by the beautiful Huanong "Poyang Lake" and planted 130 cherry trees. The species of cherry blossoms introduced this time was not imported from Japan. Instead, it was a new breed that a local company in Guangzhou spent years researching and developing, and was named "China Red."

It is understood that "Chinese Red" is a cherry tree in the cherry blossom variety. It belongs to single-sakura cherry blossoms, and its flower color is darker than normal cherry blossoms, which is more in line with the aesthetic taste of Chinese people. Therefore, it is named "Chinese Red." Previously, Guangzhou City's "urban living room" Flower City Plaza has introduced a number of "Chinese Red."

"China Red" has several prominent features: dense flowers, blooming like a cloud; relatively heat-resistant, can be in hot and humid Lingnan flowering; longer flowering period, cherry blossoms per plant can be as long as 30-45 days, into a piece of cherry The flowering time of the forest can last as long as two months, breaking Japan's so-called "Sakura seven days."

This cherry blossom “Chinese Red” has an interesting feature: Japanese cherry blossom petals are delicate and generally open and close; while the “Chinese Red” petals are tightly connected with sepals, which are resistant to wind and rain, and the general light rain will not fall off. Even if the flowers fall, the whole flower will fall. Ye Chaohong, the executive vice president of the Tianzhi Group, which researches and developed China Red, said that “China Red” reflects the perseverance of the Chinese people.

It is understood that "Chinese Red" is a hybrid. Its "parent" is a heat-resistant safflower and a dense flower. After cross-breeding, the experts selected the most heat-resistant and densest flowers. The one with the redtest color, after asexual reproduction, reached large-scale production. At present, 30,000 cherry trees have been planted at the company’s Conghua production base, most of which are “Chinese Red”.

Ye Chaohong revealed that in addition to the “Chinese Red,” they selected a local variety of pink flowers and named it “Guangzhou Sakura”. At present, "Guangzhou Sakura" is not grown in large quantities, and the company will gradually promote it in Guangzhou after further mass production.

"Sakura is a flower that is native to China. It is widely spread in Japan and is known throughout the world. We hope that through our own efforts, we will cultivate new varieties and allow cherry blossoms to return to China," said Ye Chaohong.

In recent years, with the improvement of cherry varieties, the original cherry tree can also be planted and opened in Guangzhou. Guangzhou’s Luogang District, Baiyun District, Fanyu District, and Conghua City can all trace cherry blossoms. According to rough statistics, there are more than 30,000 cherry trees planted in Guangzhou.

It is understood that the recently Baiyun Mountain Mingzhu Building Scenic Area has introduced the planting of the cherry blossom variety Shuhan Ying on more than 10,000 square meters of lawn in Ximen. A total of more than 100 large-sized cherry trees have been planted. It is estimated that from February to March next year, the citizens of Guangzhou will climb in the Pearl Tower of Baiyun Mountain. You can enjoy the cherry blossoms.

In addition, a total of 30,000 cherry trees are planted on 700 acres in Xihe Village of Huajiao Suburb Street, which contains a number of cherry blossom varieties. There is also a cherry tree forest in Dajian Village, Dongyong Town, Panyu District, which is currently open for free. There is a cherry forest next to Baishui Lake in Nansha Huangshanlu Forest Park. It covers an area of 10,000 mu and has 1,000 trees. It was built in 2009 by the people's congress of the area, the district agriculture and forestry bureau and GAC Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. in the form of voluntary tree planting.

The most convenient place for viewing cherry blossoms in Guangzhou is Flower City Square. The cherry varieties planted here are also "Chinese Red," with a number of more than 300 strains and specifications ranging from 10 cm to 15 cm in diameter at breast height. It is also the first time this year to bloom.

It is understood that the flowering period of cherry blossoms is from February to March, and the flowering period has basically passed. The new cherry blossoms on the Huanong campus will be blossomed next year as long as they are properly maintained.

The flower language of cherry blossoms is "life, happiness". It is warm, pure, noble, and the law of fate is the cycle.
