Wine inhibits growth of oral bacteria

A recent study found that grape seed extract can effectively protect oral hygiene. The reason is that grape seed extract can inhibit bacterial growth.

Tannin, or tannic acid, is a polyphenolic substance found in wine. In addition, grapes, chocolate, green tea, and other unripe fruits and berries contain this substance. The dry taste of wine comes from tannins. Tannins also have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and immune-enhancing effects. Tannins can inactivate the adhesiveness of polysaccharide cells, thereby inhibiting bacterial growth, so it can be added as an additive to oral health care products.

It should be noted that although these preliminary studies show that wine may help reduce bacterial growth, it is, after all, alcohol, containing alcohol and high levels of acid. Excessive alcohol consumption can be harmful to your health, including liver damage. High concentrations of acid can cause gingival erosion and tooth allergies.
