To ensure safe and efficient operation of the rotary cultivator, it's essential to follow proper attachment and operational procedures. First, when attaching the rotary cultivator, make sure the universal joint moves smoothly without any resistance or sticking. The universal joints at both ends should be aligned on the same plane, and during operation, the driving shaft and driven shaft of the universal joint must remain in a straight line to prevent unnecessary stress on the system.
When lifting the rotary cultivator, avoid raising it too high, as excessive lifting can cause damage to the universal joints and other components due to collisions between the suspension chain and the drive shaft. Additionally, when engaging the tractor’s power take-off (PTO) shaft, ensure the cultivator is not lifted excessively, keeping the universal joint’s angle within acceptable limits. Always disengage the clutch completely before connecting the PTO to avoid mechanical strain.
For machines with a split hydraulic system, the tilling depth should be controlled using the cylinder positioning valve and locking clamp. During operation, the control lever should be set to the floating position rather than the neutral position to allow for smooth adjustment and better performance.
Proper tractor maneuvering is also crucial. The rotary cultivator should be operated while the tractor is moving to avoid sudden resistance that could damage the equipment. Before turning or reversing, all blades must be lifted out of the ground to prevent them from striking obstacles. When crossing fields or moving between areas, raise the cultivator to its highest position, disconnect the power shaft oil, and secure the suspension mechanism with a locking device to prevent accidental movement.
When the machine is not in use, lower the rotary cultivator to the ground instead of leaving it suspended for long periods, as this can lead to mechanical wear and instability.
Personal safety is equally important. If the rotary cultivator becomes clogged with weeds during operation, never attempt to force the pedal to turn, as this can result in serious injury. Instead, move the PTO control to the neutral position and use a long-handled tool to clear the blockage. Also, always stay away from the rear and top of the machine while it is running to avoid potential accidents.
