Four methods for wet grain storage

1. Salt Storage Method. To store wet food using salt, spread the wet grains thinly in a dry and well-ventilated area within the warehouse. Apply sea salt evenly over the wet grain using a water-soluble solution. Regularly turn the grains during storage to ensure even distribution of salt. A 0.75% saline solution can effectively prevent germination, while a 0.1% saline solution helps prevent mold. The higher the moisture content of the wet grain, the stronger the salt solution should be. With this method, the treated wet grain can be safely stored for up to 10 days.

2. Bleach Storage Method. In the warehouse, pile the wet grain into several small heaps and mix in 1 kg of bleaching powder per 1,000 kg of grain. Alternatively, spread the wet grain and spray it with a diluted bleaching powder solution (5 times diluted). After application, cover the grain with plastic film and seal it tightly. Open the plastic film and turn the grain every 2 to 3 days. This method ensures safe storage for about 10 days and is particularly suitable for storing wet vegetables or similar items.

3. Vinegar Storage Method. Before storage, clean the grains thoroughly and remove any weeds. Spray 2 to 2.5 kg of vinegar per 500 kg of wet grain while mixing the grains continuously. This method helps keep the grains fresh and safe for up to 7 days, making it ideal for short-term storage.

4. Alum Storage Method. Mix 1 kg of alum with every 100 kg of wet grain and store it in a cool, well-ventilated area. If necessary, lightly moisten the grains before sealing them with plastic film. This method provides a high level of safety and is especially effective for storing wheat. It helps reduce moisture and prevents spoilage, ensuring longer preservation.

These traditional methods offer practical and cost-effective ways to preserve wet grains and other food items without the need for complex equipment. Each technique has its own advantages depending on the type of grain and the desired storage duration. By applying these methods, you can significantly extend the shelf life of your stored food while maintaining its quality and safety.
