Winter crops should not be too single

With the autumn harvest nearing its end, Zhejiang Province is now turning its focus to the upcoming winter crop season. According to the Department of Agriculture, the area designated for winter sowing in Zhejiang is expected to increase by 2.4% this year compared to last year. This growth will be seen across spring planting, rapeseed cultivation, and vegetable production, reflecting a broader push toward agricultural diversification and productivity. This year’s winter crop strategy aims to strengthen grain and oil production while promoting high-yield, marketable crops. Efforts are being made to expand large wheat varieties, develop “double low” rapeseed (low oil and low erucic acid), and increase the cultivation of fresh silkworm beans, peas, and potatoes—crops that are both profitable and in demand. Additionally, winter vegetables, fruits, edible fungi, flower seedlings, and traditional Chinese medicinal plants are also seeing increased attention. The province is accelerating the development of winter greenhouse agriculture and encouraging the use of winter green manure to enhance soil fertility. To support these efforts, new high-yield and high-quality crop varieties have been introduced. For example, in the rapeseed sector, varieties like “Zheshuang 72,” “Zhejiang 18,” and “Zheshuang 6” are now available. In wheat production, varieties such as “Flower 30” and “Yangmai 12” are being promoted. Farmers are also encouraged to adopt advanced techniques, including cost-effective farming methods, efficient winter-spring planting systems, and integrated disease and weed management practices. Incentive policies have also been introduced to boost farmers' motivation. In Wenzhou, special rewards are given to demonstration units and outstanding collectives involved in winter seed production. Lin’an City provides direct subsidies for rapeseed and winter green manure, while Tonglu County offers a 70 yuan per acre subsidy for land used in winter manure cultivation. These measures aim to make winter farming more attractive and sustainable. Winter is an ideal time to invest in farmland infrastructure and improve soil fertility. Agricultural experts recommend that farmers establish balanced crop rotation systems, adopt efficient seeding and farming techniques, and maximize the overall productivity of their land. For instance, growing winter green manure crops like ryegrass, clover, and legumes can help enrich the soil while providing additional income through dual-use benefits. Despite a recent rise in spring wheat and rapeseed prices, edible oil prices have dropped since August. Given these shifting market conditions, farmers are advised not to over-rely on a single crop. Experts suggest tailoring winter planting to local climate, soil conditions, and regional resources. For example, northern Zhejiang is focusing on high-protein feed barley and premium beer barley to address shortages. In the Hangjiahu Plain and Jinyu Basin, where rapeseed is a major crop, the emphasis is on cultivating “double low” varieties to enhance quality. Meanwhile, regions with diverse landscapes are encouraged to grow crops like fresh silkworm beans and potatoes based on local suitability. By adopting these strategies, Zhejiang's farmers are well-positioned to meet both domestic needs and market demands, ensuring a more resilient and profitable agricultural future.

Tricalcium Phosphate Feed Grade For Poultry, Aqua, Cattle Benefit:
Phosphorus has an important role in every phase of animal growth and production. It has many biological functions and is a key component in energy metabolism. It's required for Skeletal growth, formation, maintenance and Muscle tissue development. Phosphorus plays a role in maintaining osmotic balance and acid-base buffering in blood when combined with other elements. In ruminants, phosphorus is also required for rumen microorganisms to digest cellulose and synthesize microbial protein.
Adequate dietary levels of phosphorus in livestock and poultry will help for faster growth, optimum performance and better livability.
