Experts from China Agricultural University have used the candidate genes strategy to study the genotypes of more than 20,000 breeding pigs based on the study of Chinese local breeds with the highest fertility, Erhualian pig and commercial pigs from Europe. Using genomic analysis techniques, they discovered new markers that are closely related to pig reproductive performance. The results of this research are innovative achievements and are the first to be found internationally. A number of pig breeding companies in China have used this technology to help their selection to increase the number of litters in the population and have achieved significant improvements: the number of litters has increased by 0.5-1.5 heads. They collaborated with PIC, the world's largest pig breeding company, to use this technology to select a number of traits for pig breeds, and have also achieved very good results. The technology was applied only for 7 breeding pig breeding companies in China for 3 years, with a new revenue of 13.6384 million yuan.
