To enhance compatibility between PLA and PCL, a copolymer of lactide (LLA) and ε-caprolactone (CL) is used as a solubilizer. The resulting material is formed into porous sheets or meshes, offering excellent breathability and water resistance. It maintains high mechanical strength and toughness, and will not crack or break during use. Additionally, the material allows for clear X-ray imaging without requiring removal, thanks to its strong X-ray transmission ability. With a low bulk density (0.9–1.2 g/cm³), it is lightweight and requires minimal usage—typically 1–3 mm in thickness. It can be easily softened in warm water, allowing doctors to mold it conveniently. Due to its shape memory effect, the material can return to its original form when reheated to the plastic temperature. It can be stored for long periods and completely biodegrades after use, leaving no environmental impact. Compared to international PCL homopolymers, this material offers better cost-effectiveness, higher mechanical strength, and a broader range of softening temperature control. It can even be molded using a hair dryer, eliminating the need for water heating. The basic technology behind this innovation has been patented in China, marking a significant advancement in medical device development.
