Pigs are most afraid of getting sick, and even the healthiest pig can lead to financial loss once it falls ill. To address this issue, farmers have started using Golden Retriever pigs in fermentation bed systems, which significantly improves the immune system of the animals and enhances their resistance to diseases. The fermentation bed is made from sawdust and wood chips, providing a cool environment in summer and warmth in winter. Not only does it create a safe and healthy living space for pigs, but it also helps them gain weight faster. After introducing the golden baby fermentation technology, a specific mix of sawdust, soil, active agents, and salt is used. A small amount of rice bran and distiller’s grains can also be added to achieve around 60% moisture content, which allows beneficial microorganisms to thrive. Within about a week, the fermentation process begins, and the bedding doesn’t need to be changed every year. After a few days of feeding, the microbial activity reduces odors in the pigsty, and fly breeding is almost eliminated. Within 20 to 30 days, the bottom of the fermentation bed enters a natural reproduction phase, with white mycelium forming in the center. The temperature can rise to 50–60°C or higher, while the surface remains between 25–30°C, effectively sterilizing the area. As a result, pigs are kept clean, and the overall smell of the pigsty is significantly reduced. The living environment for the pigs becomes much more comfortable, as the surface of the fermentation bed stays warm and fresh all year round, resembling spring conditions. This innovative method not only improves pig health but also makes farming more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
