Next, after the roots have absorbed sufficient water, dip the seedlings into a 2000-fold dilution of ABT rooting powder for 5 to 20 minutes. This step helps promote root development and significantly increases the survival rate of the seedlings after transplanting.
Third, when planting the walnut seedlings, it's important to prevent wind from blowing away the soil around the roots. Cover the area with a plastic film measuring 90 square centimeters. First, level the ground carefully. Two people should work together to place the film over the seedling, ensuring it is centered. Flatten the film and spread it evenly, then press fine soil tightly around the roots and the base of the seedling to secure the film in place and prevent moisture loss due to wind exposure.
Fourth, once the walnut seedlings are bagged and dried, cover the tree trunk with a special protective bag to guard against pests such as beetles and leaf-eating insects. As temperatures rise, gradually ventilate the bag by making small holes and eventually remove it to allow the tree to acclimate naturally to the environment.
Fifth, after applying polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to the walnuts, apply a uniform coat of PVA solution to the entire tree. The tanning method involves mixing PVA with water in a ratio of 1:15. Begin by heating water to 50°C in a pot, then slowly add the PVA while stirring continuously. Avoid adding PVA before the water boils, as this may lead to incomplete dissolution and an uneven solution. Continue stirring until the water begins to boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 to 30 minutes. Let the solution cool slightly before use. This treatment helps protect the tree from environmental stress and enhances its overall health during the early growth stages.
