Four seasons hold the stem Camellia (Figure)

The Four-Season Camellia, a new variety imported from Vietnam, has recently caught the attention of flower enthusiasts in Jinhua. This unique camellia can cost as much as 1,200 yuan on the market, making it one of the most expensive flowers available. In local flower markets, there are various types of camellias on display, but to the untrained eye, they may all look similar. However, the price difference is quite significant—while a regular camellia pot costs between 30 to 50 yuan, the four-season variety can be sold for over 40 times that amount. Why is this particular type so valuable?

Experts explain that the main reason lies in its exceptional blooming characteristics. Unlike traditional camellias that bloom only during specific seasons, the four-season camellia can flower throughout the year. It starts blooming at the beginning of the year and continues until April. Then, it takes a short break for about ten days before blooming again in June. This cycle repeats, allowing the plant to remain in bloom almost all year round. Its large, golden-yellow flowers also add to its visual appeal, making it a rare and highly sought-after species among collectors and gardeners alike.

Camellia, also known as Camellia japonica, holds a special place in Chinese culture and is ranked among the top ten famous flowers in China. It is also considered one of the world’s most valuable ornamental plants. While there are many varieties in China’s Camellia Culture Park, most have a flowering period from March to May. The four-season camellia, however, stands out due to its ability to bloom all year, making it a true treasure in the world of camellias. Its unique beauty and long-lasting blooms contribute significantly to its high value and market demand.

Experts note that this rare variety thrives best in subtropical and tropical climates, such as those found in southern China, Yunnan, Guangxi, and even Vietnam. However, in areas like East China where winters can be colder, it requires protection. During the winter months, it is typically moved indoors or placed in greenhouses to maintain optimal growing conditions. As long as the temperature stays around 20°C and the environment remains humid, the plant can grow well and produce beautiful blooms.

The market for four-season camellias is currently strong, with increasing demand from both consumers and florists. Many farmers in Jinhua have started cultivating this variety, attracted by its profitability. According to industry experts, a single farmer can earn between 20,000 to 30,000 yuan per year from selling these flowers. Products from local farms are now being sold nationwide, including to buyers in Yunnan and even Hong Kong, showing the wide reach of this high-value plant.

What makes the four-season camellia particularly appealing to growers is not just its continuous blooming but also its versatility. It can be used as a cut flower, which adds to its commercial value. With its ability to fill the seasonal gap in the winter market and its attractive appearance, the four-season camellia is quickly becoming a favorite among both investors and flower lovers. Its combination of rarity, beauty, and practical use ensures a bright future in the ornamental plant industry.
